Special Education

Madison-Grant United School Corporation offers a free, appropriate, public education in the least restrictive environment for all students with a disability. Programs for students with disabilities meet the standards of the Indiana Department of Education and include early childhood (preschool programs for children on their third birthday), elementary, and secondary education.

We provide educational programs in accordance with the student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). This may include the opportunity to earn course credit and a diploma for academic requirements to the same extent as students without disabilities earn credits toward graduation.

IDOE Notice of Procedural Safeguards

Please view the IDOE Safeguards letter from the Indiana Department of Education regarding procedural safeguards.

As the parent of a child who has or may have a disability, the federal and state laws give you certain rights – called procedural safeguards. If you would like a more detailed explanation of these rights, you should contact the principal of your child’s school, a school administrator, your local special education director, or any of the resources listed on the last page of this notice of procedural safeguards.

Process for Identification

The process for identification includes an educational evaluation to consider possible eligibility for special education and related services in one or more categories listed above. A key aspect of the evaluation is the consideration of data derived from the student’s response to intervention (RTI) that we implement in the school environment. RTI is a systematic method of working with students using universal screening, progress monitoring, and research-based practices and interventions. For students who may be struggling, the intent is to: 1) provide earlier and systematic assistance, 2) provide high quality instruction and intervention, and 3) conduct intensive monitoring of improvement.

Madison-Grant United School Corporation is a member of the Grant County Special Education Cooperative, whose offices are located in the Mississinewa Community School Corporation Administrative Offices. The Grant County Special Education Cooperative provides oversight and support to each member district to ensure that all students with disabilities receive the special education and related services required to enable students to successfully exit school and become contributing members of society. The local Special Education Coordinator’s office is located in the Madison-Grant High School at 11700 S. E. 00 W., Fairmount, IN 46928. You can reach the office at (765) 536.0032.
